Welcome to the advice column! We asked Park City High School students to anonymously ask any question they want, and we’ll give you some advice.
Q: How do I join journalism?
A: Come to meetings every other Friday in Ms. McKay’s room, or to fast track you can email our editor-in-chief Izzy (imorris24@pcstudents.us), and let her know you’re interested!
Q: What do I do if there’s a teacher that just really gets on my nerves???
A: Fight them. Just kidding obviously!!! If there is a teacher that is getting on your nerves, you should try to wait it out for a couple of days and if they continue to get on your nerves then you should talk to them before/after class and let them know that they’re making you uncomfortable. If they continue to make you feel so then you should talk to another adult such as your parent or legal guardian, a teacher, or even the principal. If this still persists, then you can switch classes/drop the class. At the end of the day, there isn’t really anything you can do to control others.
Q: I’m stressed about living on my own in college. How can I learn more about adult life and living on my own?
A: I would try to do more things independently. Stay home alone or do something like that. The only way to learn to live independently is by doing it. Learn to cook something beyond ramen, mac n cheese, and cereal.
Q: Will there be additional help on making college essays?
A: If you join the Park City Prospector, then our editing team will help you with essays for free! Other than that, though, there will be plenty of help with college essays from the Writing Workshop to asking teachers and even fellow students for ideas and advice. Even then, your college essay will be extraordinary and whatever you choose to write about and how will be an amazing essay.
Q: How do I pass my classes?
A: I would set a specific time to work on each class. Each day that you have a class, set around 30-60 minutes where you only work on that. Plus, you can always talk to your teacher(s) for more help or extra practice as well as going in for after-school help, such as Math Lab or Sci-Space.
Q: How do I tell my crush I like him?
A: The best way to tell your crush you like them is to be straight up about it. Just go for it and shoot your shot, worst case scenario, they say they don’t like you back, and while it may seem like the end of the world then, you’ll get over it eventually. But, don’t lose hope, there is always the chance that they like you back, but if you never try you’ll never know.
Q: what should i do abt my B+ cuz colleges won’t accept me
A: I think colleges might be rejecting you because of your spelling capabilities, not because of the B+. But don’t worry! A B+ is still a great grade. There are plenty of colleges that will accept you. Keep your options open and focus on showcasing your strengths and passions in your applications. In the end, colleges are looking for what you as a person have to bring to this college, so make sure to be yourself. Also, make sure you have safeties! You got this!!
