As most of us know, Coachella 2024 recently came to an end. Many who attended the world-famous event had conflicting feelings about the lineup, the costs, and the overall energy.
The lineup was one of the many points of disagreement between the attendees. Featuring artists such as Lana Del Rey; Sabrina Carpenter; Tyler, The Creator; J Balvin; Ice Spice, and more, some considered it an amazing list, and others disappointing. For instance, when asked if they had the opportunity to see Coachella, PCHS students their input.
“Free ticket, I’ll be there, otherwise it’s not worth it.” student Dani Olsen remarked.
“I would adore it! … If I were older, I would be there!” said Olivia Caravaglia
“I would go for Doja Cat and Ice Spice, that’s it.” senior Bri Walsh stated.
Arguably this year, Coachella’s lineup was very “girl-coded” meaning it appealed primarily to a more feminine audience, which may have been the cause of the polarized views.
Another point of conflict was how expensive Coachella was. For influencers who were paid to attend it, this may have been fine, however, those who had general admission had many complaints with tickets ranging from $499 to $1,269 (depending on purchasing a VIP pass) other costs generated frustration. Some foods and drinks were extremely inflated, for instance, the 11$ pizza and the 32$ burrito, causing many festival goers to feel outraged by the high prices. A few who attended the festival argued the only thing they smuggled in was a “protein bar.”
The final discussion revolving around Coachella was the overall atmosphere. Many reported it to be a ghost town which made the festival feel more welcoming and stress-free. Others felt that the lack of attendees showed the waning popularity and made the festival feel more boring. Leading into the discussion of whether or not Coachella will continue, at least to the extent that always has. Some foresee next year to be the final test of whether or not the musical event will be worth attending.
Whether or not they enjoyed it or hated it everyone who managed to get tickets could agree; that this year’s Coachella was much different than in the past, and I along with millions of others am interested to see what next year may bring.
