86 years ago Amelia Earhart began her infamous flight around the world, mysteriously disappearing partway through. For years no one has known what happened, did her plane go down into the ocean, was she stranded on an island? Soon, we may have our answer.
An exploration team based in South Carolina announced that they have compelling sonar images of an object that resembles her aircraft, a Lockheed Electra, in size and tail shape. Even more compelling? It was found 100 miles off the coast of Howland Island where she and her navigator Fred Noonan were supposed to refuel but never did.
The team is planning on doing further research and imaging of what they found underwater, so we should soon know what happened to Amelia Earhart all those years ago.
