High School is hard. That is the most honest way I can put it. We aren’t all the same as in elementary and middle school, and that’s okay. Dealing with mental health issues can 100% make that more difficult. For me, it has definitely made school a much more difficult environment and place to be. Here are some ways I have dealt with this.
First knowing your resources, Park City High has a great counseling team, whether it’s your academic counselor or Ms. Walsh. You are supported and they are always ready to listen to you if they have the time. The school nurse, Ms. Jennings, is always available to help as well when dealing with physical symptoms of anxiety. I know it can be scary to ask for help, but it does make school a much easier place to be when you know you are supported. Park City High also offers calming rooms, if you need a break from class or alone time, those are always a great place to go.
I understand how overwhelming and scary mental health issues can be. But you’re not alone. Reaching out to a parent or guardian is always important so you can get the help you need to succeed in your health and academics. Your mental health is a priority and you should always make sure you are taking care of yourself and treating your body correctly.
Getting enough sleep and eating healthy meals at least 3 times a day is huge. Self-care has been what has helped me the most. When having free time you can always try to take some time for yourself. Doing skin care, writing or reading, or even just relaxing and listening to upbeat music is great!
Remember your problems are not small and deserve to be listened to. You are loved and important. There are plenty of resources posted around the school you can always reach out to. Your mental health issues do not define you. Trust that problems do get solved and you will end up in a better place once you start to work for it.
