A senior at Park City High this year, Elspeth Stevenson is an artist who loves to paint, draw, crochet, and play Nintendo. She was born and raised in Park City and has taken every art class possible to pursue this passion.
Elspeth’s art career started as doodles when she couldn’t focus in school, and now has developed into impressive paintings and other art, such as the piece shown above as she uses her creativity to express herself.
“I really enjoy Renaissance paintings because they have a sort of elegance and aesthetic that I think is beautiful,” she says when asked about her artistic endeavors. “I could spend hours looking at one Renaissance piece trying to decipher the techniques they used to make it.” While Elspeth gets inspiration from the Renaissance greats, she says that sometimes she turns to “good old Pinterest” for new ideas to spark her imagination.
Stevenson’s creativity is what drives her interest in art. She explains, “I love that I can imagine anything and know that I can make it. I get lost in my own world when I do art and time doesn’t seem to pass.” Spoken like a true artist!
Not only does Elspeth find joy in painting and drawing, but she also has a knack for the craft of crochet. She says became interested in crochet when she discovered the freedom of what could be made with yarn and a hook. She makes clothes and blankets that cater to her style. “I really like unique clothing and style which is sometimes hard to find. By using crochet I can make my own unique things that can be perfect to my size and style.”
When asked for any parting words of wisdom, she says, “Always listen to Gandalf. Bro says some pretty real things.”
