Park City has moved down from the 5A sports division to the 4A division. I am sure that some of you have heard this and know what it means, but others, including myself, want to know more about it.
Each year, the school reviews what changes will happen in each bracket, and until 2021, we had always been a 4A team. After COVID, the school had in increase in students and PCHS made the decision to move up from 4A to 5A. However, there was an even bigger reason for us to move up – that reason being: travel. The teams that were going to be in 4A were down by Cedar City and St. George. That kind of travel was more than the school wanted, contributing to a decision to move up.
When the school reviewed after last year’s season, they decided to move down for two reasons. First, the school population had started to decrease. While we could have continued in 5A, we would have been the smallest school by far. The main reason for moving down, though, was the same as our reason to move up: travel. Some of the teams nearby that we were playing in 5A had made the decision to move down also, and the teams that had been farther away had moved up to 5A. Now, we will be playing the same teams that we were, but in a division that better suits our school size and travel needs.
