Mr. Miner 2022
Every year for the last decade, PCHS Dance Company puts on a mock pageant show as their main fundraiser. It’s happening again this Wednesday, February 16 at 6:00 pm.
“It is the bread and butter fundraising event for Dance Company. It is where we do most of our fundraising for all of our costumes, programs, travel, guest choreographers, guest teachers, and things like that,” said PCHS Dance Teacher Ashley Mott.
About two months before the show, there is either a school-wide vote to ask for candidates or a survey form asking for applicants. This year contestants applied on their own.
The interested students are then informed about the commitments of the process and decide whether it is something they are willing to carry out.
Within about a month, competitors start learning the dances, coming up with their talent, and rehearsing.
10 seniors compete for the title of “Mr. Miner” by participating in a dance, talent portion, modeling competition, and answering questions.
After Dance Company performs a number while the judges are coming to a verdict and counting votes, the nominees come to the stage to be awarded either, Mr. Miner, Audience Choice Award, First Runnerup, or Mr. Congeniality.
Each Dance Company member is assigned a contestant to help with their talent, their ballot box for the Audience Choice Award, to answer any questions they have, and to help them with the process.
Dance Company also helps prep for the production by making the mining helmet tiaras for the award ceremony, programs, and posters.
Tickets are available online only at pcminers.us/event-tickets. There are also QR codes on all of the posters and tv screens around the school. Tickets are 10 dollars and the show is at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 16.
“It’s really fun, hilarious, and there are also genuine talent show events,” Mott said.
Last year at Mr. Miner, there were many covid restrictions but, this year it is back to a live show.
“Prior to covid, the audience would have up to 800 people,” said Mott.
“From year to year, it has ebbed and flowed with how much the student body wants to be involved or how many candidates we have. I would hope to continue to grow student interest in Mr. Miner and that the current junior and sophomore class would be interested in applying or participating when they are seniors as well,” said Mott.
“Come support Mr. Miner and thank you for supporting our fundraiser,” said Mott.
