Miners Hockey Advances to State Finals

The Park City Miners shut out Farmington High School at home on February 9th by a score of 6-0. The Miners advanced to the D1-Affiliated state finals to be played on Monday, Feb. 14 against either Brighton or a potential rematch with Farmington, since it is a double-elimination tournament.

 

The Miners also defeated Herriman by yet another 6-0 score on Feb. 7 in the first round of the playoffs.

 

Sophomore Liam VanValkenburg netted a hat trick, scoring three goals with one assist on Wednesday night. The three other scorers included seniors TJ Griswold and Bryce Bargowski and junior Finn Boyle. Senior goalie Colten McIntyre saved all fifteen Farmington shots in his shut-out.

 

Park City jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first period, out-shooting Farmington 16 shots to 4. Overall, they shot more than double compared to Farmington, finishing with 37 shots to only 15 Farmington shots.

 

The Miners dominated Herriman from wire to wire in their first round win, out-shooting Herriman 32 to 6, and outscoring them 6-0. Sophomore Liam VanValkenburg scored the first two goals and assisted on two other goals. Junior Cutler Schofield scored an additional two in their convincing shut-out.

 

With state titles in back to back years in 2019-20 and 2020-21, Park City is just one game away from a three-peat in state championships, cementing their dominance. Last year, they defeated Farmington 3-1 to win the state title.
