November 15, 2022
Newsies, The Musical has generated some serious buzz lately — it’s showing here at the high school! Opening night is November 17, 2022. Tickets are available now at parkcityminers.us/event-tickets. It will be taking place at the Eccles Theater. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. All showings are on Thursday, the 17th at 7:00, Friday, the 18th at 7:00, and two shows on Saturday, the 19th — one at 2:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm.
But it gets better. We got an inside look into the musical, the casting, and a quick interview with Krishelle Hanson, our theater director.
What is Newsies? The musical is based on the Newsboys’ strike of 1899 in New York City. This happened because there were no laws against child labor at the time, and many underaged individuals were not getting paid enough for their work. The protagonist and spearhead of the newsboy union, Jack “Cowboy” Kelly, wanted to take down the owner of World News so he would raise back the price of their paybacks to full. The story serves as a representation of not only of the working class but also of tough men who could enjoy singing and dancing. The narrative is emotional, heartfelt, and something you will surely not want to miss. The main characters you might recognize are played by JT O’Reilly, Kenny Butz, Elly Muldav, Lila Stein, and more.
“We’ve got a really good bunch of actors this year. They put their heart and soul into the performance, and I think this show is one you won’t want to miss,” Hanson said.
Make sure to catch the performance! Thanks to donations from Park City Education Foundation for funding this event with amazing costumes and impressive sets.
